month Thank You

Cable modem technology is faster than ADSL but at the same time is
not a "Consistent" speed. Cable broadband speed can vary based on
the loading of all customers on your feed. ADSL is a dedicated service
so whatever maximum speed you can obtain will likely stay at that level
from day-to-day.

Not really much you can do on your end besides a check that your
TCP/IP settings are optimized for your type of service. These are items
like MTU, Window Receive Size and a few others.

Otherwise, I usually tell customers to check their ISP's website for the
Network Status. Usually, they will have a State/City chart where you
can find out if any Network issues are being worked.

Speed test site, choose a location nearest to you as the speed decreases the
greater the distance:
http://www.speakeasy.net/speedtest/

Then try Dr TCP: http://www.dslreports.com/drtcp
Adjust the TCP Receive Window value upward (initially it may be blank or
contain some low
value).
Retest your speed, adjust TCP Receive Window if necessary. I have Cable so
mine is set to 56940.
See if this improves your online speed.

Also:
Your cable modem, was it installed by the cable company. I ask this because
if you are using your own modem it may not fully meet the cable companies
requirements.

Have you contacted your ISP? What type of results are you supposed to be
getting (what download speed did you purchase)? The results will vary from
test to test, because of different servers involved in the test or because
of other things. I just did one test on my PC and got 4439 while another
test on the same server gave 3533. Clearing the browser cache and rerunning
the tests gave 4589 and 3727. Finally, you might want to have a read here:

Try removing power from the cable modem for one minute during which
unplug the CAT5 cable to it from your router or computer. Then power
up the cable modem and watch until its lights indicates it is ready
and also active. Then attach your network cable and speed test again.
