My Documents

If I double click on My Documents all my documents are listed there. The
address shows as an open folder My Documents

If I look in Local Disk (C) Documents and Settings/My name I can get into a
folder from there showing Joan with My Documents
C:\Documents and Settings\JOAN\My Documents

If I look in Local Disk (C) Documents what is supposed to be in this folder?
Last time I looked it contained a bunch of folders with names I had renamed.
For example a folder named Re Add Remove was renamed by me to Add Remove.
The one in My Documents and the one in C:\Documents and Settings\JOAN\My
Documents had the new name.

I noticed that when I went to arcive from my hard drive C to my Zip Drive
that some of my documents were missing from My Documents. It was at that
time that I discovered this path Local (C) Documents folder C:/My Documents.
This is the folder that had all the old documents including Re Add Remove
and it also contained my missing documents. The only thing I can figure is
that I somehow accidentally moved some of my documents to this folder when
trying to arcive them but the documents located there that Ihad renamed
really puzzled me. I deleted everything in that path Local (C) Documents
folder C:/My Documents; however there were 3 hidden files that I did not
delete because I thought maybe they should be there. This folder shows up
blank.

Any new documents I create do not appear their either.

Do you have any explanation re this folder and what if anyathing should be
in it. Seems to me it should have the same information as My Documents.

C:\Documents and Settings contains user settings and data. It's like /home
on Linux but less useful (Windows programmers haven't gotten used to
programming in multiuser environments, thus insist on doing stupid shit
like putting settings in the system registry instead of in the D&S folder
of the user that changed the setting; thus some programs let users change
settings without affecting others, while other programs are still living in
the MS-DOS and MS Windows 9x single-user past.

Changing names of files and folders you don't know the function of is
generally a bad idea.

That's why it's a bad idea. Hope you have a backup.
