my documents on wallpaper

Since about five days ago, i've been having a problem with my documents. My desktop is acting up strangely. it has my wallpaper on it but, about a fifth of it is a bar that seems to be my documents. it's in the left side. it has button to push for new folders and to look at networks and shared documents etc... It looks just like the left part of "my documents" on any computer. for those of you who have a blue appearance or silver (doesn't matter), it's the whole colored part when you first open it up. only way i have gotten rid of it is to do system restore to go back to the default wallpaper. any help would be appreciated.
