My dad forgot his Windows Password to his Computer

How can we log on if the password hint does not help us. Let's put it this
way he bought a new computer a couple of weeks ago and set it up in the wee
hours of the morning. At this time, he chose a password. He remembers it
vaguely, but maybe he did not spell it right that night or something because
we cannot get onto his computer. Please tell me there is a way to override
the password.

Boot the computer into Safe Mode and log in as the Administrator. The
default password setting for the Administrator account is blank.

Once running in Safe Mode you can use Start - Run - CMD to open a
command prompt window.

In that window enter the following command:

net user <username> <password>

Replace <username> with your Dad's username as it shows in his user
account.

Replace <password> with the password that your Dad wants to use and
will remember correctly. Remember passwords are case sensitive so
Dad and dad are two different passwords.

Good luck

Simply log in using the built-in Administrator account and reset the
password of the desired account(s).

By design, the only way to log into the Administrator account of
WinXP Home is to reboot into Safe Mode. For WinXP Pro, pressing
CTRL+ALT+DEL twice at the Welcome Screen will produce the standard login
dialog box.
