My computer wont start unless the installation disk is in the cd drive, i
dont understand why. I installed in the usual way, with no errors at all. Its
very annoying. does anyone know why, and how to rectify it with out
reinstalling windows again?

hrmmm..

I would boot into the recovery console with your windows xp CD and verify
that your windows files are indeed on your hard drive.
then if the all the files are there I would try to fix my MBR

Fixboot c: and then Fixmbr

SOMETIMES,

this is caused by the Boot drive being set to HDD1 (the SECOND drive)
instead of HDD0 (FIRST drive)

Check that in BIOS
