3.5 floppy wont format in xp

Does anyone know of a update or something I can do to fix this so it will
format it.
Its straight out of the package so I dont understand why it wont format it.
I have tried several disk but same thing. Windows was unable to complete
format.

It sounds like your 3.5 drive is hosed.

XP can have a problem with anti-virus programs that will stop you from
formatting a floppy. Try to format it using the cmd prompt. Use the command
format a: /x

If I remember correctly -- it's been awhile since I used a blank floppy
disk straight out of the box -- most floppy disks come already formatted.

Did the format from the command prompt work? Can you format these disks
on another computer with a floppy drive? Can the floppy drive read other
disks? Results should give you a clue as to whether you've got bad disks
or a bad drive.
