My computer won't shutdown!!

Can anyone help me with this problem? My computer won't let me shut it
down. I'll click on the start menu, select "Turn off computer", then click
"turn off"...but it won't turn off. All that happens is there is a 'ding'
sound and it stays on. There aren't any windows or error messages that
popup, all there is is a 'ding'. Can someone help, or am I going to have to
kick the damn thing over and over and over. lol This computer is driving
me nuts.

Just read your message on a search for my problem.
I installed Roxio Ver.5 on my laptop with Win XP.
First the cd would not eject with the eject button on the
drive.

Had this problem before and was tols to put Cd Direct and
Roxio creator on my start up bar. (lower right on task bar)
Did this and something else got "clobberd" ???
Went through the normal shut down routine and the computer
restarted.
Massaged the start up file and wiht different
selections... No Luck!

Any suggestions?
