Ok first things first have you tried the usual diagnostics, i.e
1. Boot into safe mode (hit F8 on boot after the machine has POST'ed to get
the boot menu and select safe mode)
2. Try hitting ctrl-alt-del and bring up the task manager after you have
closed the userinit.exe error window? If you can go to File>>new process
(run)>> and type explorer. This would launch the desktop making it easier to
run diagnostics tools like hijack this, any anti virus software and look
through the event viewer,
3.tried logging in as a different user?
4. Used a third party pre boot software to access harddrive data (BartPE
works wonders but there are others out there) and do any sort of
recovery/disk checking/repairing of files you need to .
5. used your XP cd to boot from and run the automatic recovery console from?
If you get any response the please let us know, and Event log errors would
be spiffy.
Thanks
