my computer properties system information missing

I am running Windows XP Pro, SP2, on a Dell Workstation computer. The
problem started with a "restore my active desktop" and a message that there
were scripts running on the page. I then had My Computer problems. First,
when I opened it, nothing showed up. Then, I had to control-alt-del to close
it, and then the desktop blanked out for a time, and then I got the restore
desktop message again. When I right-clicked My computer and left-clicked
properties, the system information window did not appear. I tried system
restore, but the computer hung up on shutting down. I could not get it to
work, even in safe mode.. I removed any programs I had installed prior to
that. I moved some drivers out of the system 32 drivers folder as a way to
correct some of this, and it did (instructions from Microsoft support
website.)-- I used CCLeaner to delete all temporary files and cookies. I
searched this forum for a resolution to this, but I couldn't find anything.
There was one post that was similar, and the suggestion was to look for the
file windir%\system32\oeminfo.ini, but it does not exist on my system. I did
a virus scan with AVG, and there was no virus. I ran Spybot and Spysweeper
and got rid of some tracking cookies.

The lack of the system information window when I click on My Computer
properties is the main problem now. I have no problem opening my documents
and programs. I originally could not connect to the internet with IE, but
that has resolved.

Is there anything else I should check to see if it is working?

Thank you for your help.
