"My Computer" looks like win98

"My Computer" in one of my XP machines displays icons like Win98 and not like my
other XP computers. On the good machines "My Computer" has the title "Files
stored on this computer" and shows shared documents and owners documents at the
top. Under that is the title "Hard Disk Drives" and my local drive is listed.
Under that the title "Devices with removable storage" and my cd drive is listed.
Then "network drives"
One of XP machines has all the icons jumbled like Win98 or ME. Is there a fix
this?

open the folder, go to tools>folder options

on the "General" tab is the box marked "Use windows classic folders"
checked? Check the other option instead. Apply that setting if necessary.

Close the folder, open it again and then go up to the "Views" menu item and
experiment with that until you get the desired result.

If it still is not how you want it you can always go to tools>folder options
and hit the restore defaults button, not sure whether that was what you
wanted or not though.

You might want to try the following:

Open My Computer.
Right click an open area in the right hand pane.
In the menu that pops up move your mouse pointer over "Arrange
Icons By".
In the menu that pops out, make sure that you've selected Type
and "Show in Groups".
To select those options, simply click on the line.
Note:If you see a dot next to Type and a check mark next to
"Show in Groups" it means that they've been selected.

That was it. I didn't have "show in groups" selected and I didn't have "type"
selected.
Thanks for the help.

You're welcome. Glad to hear you've got that problem fixed.
