My Computer Freezes

N

ne5

Hi,
About 4 times out of 5 when I open my computer it freezes for about 30
seconds before showing my drives. When I look in task manager "my computer"
has a folder icon next to it, not the normal computer icon.

Any ideas?

Cheers

Usually when a computer freezes like that it is lookung for a network
connection or has issue with a piece of hardware. Here are some things you
can do to resolve the issue:

1. Open Device Manager to see if there are any yellow icons next to any
devices. If so then you should make sure you install the proper device
drivers.

2. Run a chkdsk /f on your HD to make sure the file system is not at fault.

3. See if you have any network connections that are not connected. What you
experience may just be a time out.

Hi,
About 4 times out of 5 when I open my computer it freezes for about 30
seconds before showing my drives. When I look in task manager "my computer"
has a folder icon next to it, not the normal computer icon.

1.Clear the (IE) temporary Internet files and the history cache.
Click 'Start' and then click 'Run'... then type (or copy/paste)
"inetcpl.cpl" (w/out quotation marks) into the box, then click the 'OK'
button.
In Internet Properties panel 'General' tab, under 'Browsing history', click
'Delete...'button, in 'Delete Browsing History' panel, click the 'Delete
all...' button then place a checkmark into the box beside 'Also delete
files and settings stored by add-ons', Click 'Yes' and exit the Internet
Properties panel by clicking the 'OK' button.

2.Clean HDD
Click 'Start' and then click 'Run...' then type (or copy/paste) "cleanmgr"
(w/out quotation marks into the box, then click the 'OK' button. Select
your drive (presumably WinXP (C:) and click OK.

3.Download/execute:
Malwarebytes© Corporation - Anti-Malware

SuperAntispyware - Free

Both free versions of MBAM and SAS are on-demand scanners and offer no
'real-time' protection. Keep them installed and use them as
'second-opinion' scanner which is purposely (by design) recommended by
their respective authors.
