My Computer folder empty (0 objects) ???

I have Win 2000 Professional 5.00.2195 Service Pack 4 running with an
AMD Athlon 900 mHz processor. I have 128 meg of RAM. 30 gig H drive.
The mainboard went out (bad caps) and I replaced it and also did a
fresh reload of OS and upgrades.
The My Computer folder is empty! This problem occurred with the
original mainboard as well.
What is this all about?

Any suggestions or info would be very appreciated.

As an additional note there are times when folder locks (not
responding) up after searching
and failing to find any objects.
