my computer can't search

I have been searching files for key words within the file for years. In the
last 2-3 weeks the search function for my computer has stopped working. I can
still put the information into the form but the search no longer generates
any hits, and it finishes the search in under 3 seconds for 1300+ files. I
can search within the file using WORD and that works , but that is difficult
when searching some 1300 files.

could it be, somehow, the search has been customized
Also could it be that somehow the system file index got corrupted. If some,
try delete the index or disable then re-enable index for fast file
searching.
