File Content Search Fails

Hi all,

I have one XP Pro system that fails to find content within files. For
example, when I search (from Start or Explorer menu) for *.txt files, all
such files are found but when I search for *.txt containing the word 'xxxx'
no files are found even tho I can see the word within the file. Sure is
aggravating...any ideas? Thanks

Hi Mark,

Thanks for the response. Yes there is a file association for .txt. This
problem occurs regardless of the file extension or the search content. I've
also rebuilt the indexes but no joy. BTW any file name containing the search
content is found successfully. For example, if I have a file named chew.txt
and I search for 'ew' content, this file is found. So part of search is
working ;-)

I think I finally found the answer. Changed indexing properties to include
unknown file types. After reindexing, content search has started working for
both known and unknown types. I don't know what caused this but all is well.
Thanks for the assist.
