MY CDRW/DVD driver is dead

I downloaded some stupid ass virus from Myspace, and I knew it was a
dumb move when I was doing it. Afterwards of course I have a virus. So
I did all I could do to get rid of it, and even used System Restore
and restored it to an original state. Afterwards the virus seemed to
be gone, but I noticed one thing when I put in cds they didn't work.
Neither did my iTunes.

I fixed the iTunes, I fixed error messages with HiJackthis, but still
my cd-Rom driver doesn't work

I have a SAMSUNG CDRW/DVD SM-348B model

and it doesn't start up at the... well... start up

opening the Device Manager I can see the Driver, but there's an
exclamation point next to it.

opening it up it tells me that "Windows can not open the device driver
for this hardware. The driver may be corrupted or missing. (Code 39)"

so I try fixing it by how they tell me how, but still doesn't work,
then I can't even find software... I don't know I just don't know what
to do

if anybody has any answers please tell me

Un-install the driver, turn off the PC and disconnecting the CD.DVD drive's
ribbon cable.
Next re-boot (without the CD/DVD connected).
Shut down the PC and re-connect the CD/DVD drive's ribbon cable.
Re-boot and Windows should detect that a new device has been added.

Hi all, spooky that I had the same problem as someone else on the same day.
While working with Nero, I got a message "wrong settings - restart to fix",.
My DVD/CDRW is okay but my DVDRW thinks its a CD reader. I restored the
system - no luck. I uninstalled the DVDRW and rebooted - my computer
recognised new hardware but the DVDRW still thinks its a CD reader. I will
try JS's suggestion because I've nothing to lose but I believe the registry
was altered (which should have been fixed by restore). Has anyone any ideas
about what could have changed and how I can fix it. Thank you
Sapper
