I recently installed a My Book Essential external hard drive on my Dell 4300
It came up as Drive F and allowed me to transfer files
Now when I start up my computer it shows it as drive G and thinks it is a
floppy drive. Any suggestions?

What is your primary problem? If it still works as you want it to don't
worry about what Windows calls it., be glad Windows even recognized it was
there. You might assign it a permanent drive letter like X or something far
away from the beginning of the alphabet so your mobo or Windows doesn't have
to work so hard.

When the drive comes up as G, The computer thinks it is a removeable disk and
will not let me access it. Sometimes it does not come up at all

You should probably discuss with Western Digital the possibility that your
hardware is faulty.
