well, i have an AMD 64 3500+, its running at 4.0 gHZ and i want to make
sure thats safe, what should i do, it runs at a fairly cool 79 degress
Farenheit... yeah, so, my specs

AMD 64 3500+ 4.0 gHZ
1024 mb DDR400 pc3200 RAM
300 GB Seagate Baracuda
Gigabyte iDNA
nVidia GeForce 6200
8 Channel Gigabyte Audio
500 Watt PSU

Yeah, right. Overclocking to almost twice the rated speed at
that temp. 79'F would be amazing if you were using air cooling
or water cooling and running at the 2.2 GHz normal speed. To hit
4 GHz you would have to do liquid nitrogen type of cooling to
keep the chip at temps well below 0'C.

What I don't get is looking at his system specs, he has a Geforce 6200
yet he overclocks!

That does not make any sense, also he is only using standard memory
speeds, most overclockers get faster ram, faster video card.

Also he does not state just what the overclock is for, is it games, or
a certain application, or is he doing it just for the fun of it?

I have no problems with people overclocking, but most sane people do it
for a reason, on that hardware I would say why bother. Even at that
stability is more a concern then heat for them. Most people I know who
overclock have stability problems before having problems with heat.
Most of the times that is caused by memory, and video card problems.
