My 3820 now a Dead Turkey?

So I tried changing print cartridges. Let the lid drop closed while the
black ink latch was up. found carriage jammed against the top. Reset.
Installed new ink cartridge, now can't print. Printer responds to print
request with some light blinking paper feed and carriage shuffle, then
stops, no printing action at all. Exhausted the "troubleshooting"
repertoire. Reinstalled all drivers.

Uninstalled all, reinstalled again. result always the same. Shuffle.
blink, but no print. Ends up wih blinking green light. Forever.

What to do?

Try mechanical reset oe take back cover off and gently rotate main shaft
with the alreg rollers till you hear a click

Just called Radio Shcak Repair 800 #. Gal said "No parts Available"-
return to customer.

When I receive it, I will try mechanical reset as you say, and report
back here.

Meanwhile, what's a reasonable replacement for the 3820 (I want a
parallel port, and I want to salvage cartridges.
