Mutliple voice/video chat sessions

Hi,

I'm looking at puchasing a UPnP router. Can most UPnP
routers support mutliple voice/video chat sessions? ie.
two users on my LAN chatting (voice/video) with two
external contacts at the same time.

Any good UPnP routers?

The best performing UPnP routers for Messenger (and no, I don't make any money by suggesting
this, but I do use one myself) are the Microsoft routers.

And yes, two users on the LAN will be able to chat with two [different] external contacts at
the same time without a problem.

I'm using a Draytek 2600W router and can confirm that it allows multiple
voice sessions. It can connect to the Internet through ADSL or ISDN, has a
built-in firewall (which passes the sleuth tests), and a 4-port Ethernet
hub. This particular model also supports wireless connections, which is
nice. However, I did need to install the latest firmware upgrade, before
Messenger would work.

Hi Barry,

Well, they fully support UPnP, which D-Link and Linksys have had trouble with the past (and
as such, features in Messenger wouldn't work). Don't get me wrong, they're not the only ones
that work, but they're the ones I recommend personally (from personal experience) -- they're
also usually priced better then most others.

I can say, with my netgear fr114p (fw 1426) upnp enabled,
WinXP-SP1 upnp enabled, Windows Messenger 5 and MSN Messenger 6 I am able to
do everything (even paralell with more than one pc in LAN): voice,
video-conf., x-fer, games, whiteboard/app-sharing, remote ...

I use a Solwise SAR715, it also does multiple voice and video and fully

I'm trying something similar and failing. See below:

Where does one enable this?

Is it OK to install both of these together? I don't seem to be able to
get any answer about how they differ or intertwine or why there are 2
such similar apps.

I just want to do video & voice. To test over the local LAN, I assume
you have to simply log in as two different users. So I'll have to
register with MS twice, right?

Is it correct that UPnP acts as an agent to open ports as needed from
the huge range quoted for video? I can't seem to find a simple
explanation on the Microsoft site, just lots of waffling articles.

Grateful for any help from anyone.
