mutiple problems with xp and IE

B

bar

Start off with freezing up at some web pages, but not
all. Am using AVG and Zone Alarm. Have done the latest
updates for Windows. Running IE version 6. Unable to
run AVG virus scan, system hangs while doing scan.
Problem also includes unable to run a live help page from
ISP, got error
"Your browser does not understand the <APPLET> tag"

Also unable to do any downloads, getting error msg which
is "internet explorer is unable to display link"

After doing all windows updates, the freeze problem while
browsing, for now, seems to have gone away. Am using
OUtlook Express as mail client and could use a good link
telling me how to export messages if the only fix is to
format and reinstall XP.

Any help would be greatly appreciated and I will put you
on my "good fortune cookie" list!

Happy Thanksgiving.

If you are unable to run a virus scan, your computer is probably already
infected with one of the many viruses that break antivirus software. If
you can't troubleshoot this yourself (it will require scanning with
various other antivirus software such as Stinger in Safe Mode,
disabling known viruses with msconfig, etc.) then take the machine to a
good local computer repair shop (not Best Buy or CompUSA) tomorrow. Get
off the Internet. Enjoy your Thanksgiving, too.
