My PC crashed and i had to format and re-install Windows 2000. Everything seems to be in order, but:

a. PC starts up somewhat slowly. This is not a big problem though...

b. Although Windows clearly indicates that the sound-card is working absolutely perfectly, and all the necessary wiring between the PC and the speakers is correctly connected, the PC is still totally mute? I must say that i'm dumbfounded, because if the sound card is correctly installed (Windows + all the programs and games find it) and the speakers are connected and turned on, then what can possible be the problem?!?!

check the volume controls.
control panel/sounds/volume/advanced.
