must enable video cards =( -possible bug here btw

I've managed to disable my video card on my laptop
(emachines m3610) which leaves me with a blank screen and i
can get it going again. I'm trying very hard not to wipe
my hard drive as there are critical things on it. History
of problem
I was trying to make an old video game (fallout1) work
under winXPhome, and the listed workaround said to turn off
your video card. I found an option to do this under
prefrences->adapter->advanced->properties I tried this,
and the computer rebooted in 600x800 at 16 bit. so far so
good. but the game stilll woudn't load right so i
attempted to turn it back again. There was no option to
re-enable the video card. Insterad there was a diferent
video card listed to turn off. since it was the onlyu
option that was there i tried it and my screen went blank.
When I reboot i get normal monitor operation until windows
actually starts, then it goes. I believe i have turned off
my video cards and cannot seem to get them back. Things
that don't work: safe mode (any), external monitor, vga
mode, attemting to switch monitor sizes from the keyboard,
booting into dos, usitn the restore cd (it will only allow
me to wipe my drive, not reinstall, calling emachines.
Supposedly somewhere there is a program that comes on 5
floppies that allows one to mess with windows settings
outside of windows but my laptop has no floppy driv, and if
it could be made to boot off a usb floppy i still dont know
what the program is or how to use it. Can anyone help me?

Start Windows XP in Safe mode:

1.) Start the computer. The computer begins processing a set of
instructions known as the BIOS
..
2.) As soon as the BIOS has finished loading, begin tapping the F8 key
on your keyboard. Continue to do so until the Windows Advanced Options
menu appears.

3.) Using the arrow keys on the keyboard, scroll to and select the Safe
mode menu item, and then press Enter.

4.) Once in Safe Mode, reinstall your video drivers that should have
been supplied to you by the manufacturer of your laptop. [Check out you
Laptop makers web site, if you can't find the drivers.]

I don't know if you can get to the CMOS battery on your laptop, but if you
removed the battery for about 10 minutes, reinstall the battery and boot up,
it should cause the BIOS to go back to default settings.

And what would that possibly have to do with how an operating system is
working with video settings? Nothing. As previously suggested, go into
Safe Mode and reinstall your video card drivers.

The OP said he disabled his onboard video card. The default in BIOS is
onboard video card enabled.

"under prefrences->adapter->advanced->properties"
The default in BIOS is
onboard video card enabled.

Nowhere did the OP say he disabled the video thru the BIOS. I not quite
sure where he did disable it [video driver utility program?], but I got
the distinct impression that it was while running Windows.
