is it possible to write mp3 music files onto a blank cd
and then play the cd on a hi fi
would it work.

If youre CD player support "Mp3 Playback" then yes. If not you will have to
burn an "AudioCD"

A "hi fi"? You must be almost as old as me!

If you have a CD "burner", sure it's possible. Heck, I've even taken old
vinyl LPs and 45s that I played on my Hi Fi 45 years ago (really!), put them
on a turntable hooked up to the Sound Blaster card in my PC, and copied
those to CD-R - and my wife plays them on her CD player in the living room.

I'll bet instructions for most of this are in the manual that came with your
CD-RW drive.
