Please note that uninstalling the player previous to reinstalling it is
actually counterproductive. When I wrote the installer, I kept in mind that
people like to reinstall a product as a means to fix it. So a reinstall of
the player over the top of itself actually activates special helpful
trouble-shooting logic that is only possible to access in that
reinstalling-the-player-on-top-of-itself mode. It is not accessible if you
uninstall-then-reinstall, so please don't steer people that way.
I know a lot of people propagate the "uninstall first" advice, but it's
simply not the right way to go with WMP.
And now you know something a lot of other people don't know.
And regardless - my sincere appreciation for your taking the time out to
help other people like this.
