Music CD catalogue/ripper/complier/burner recommendation(s)

Howdy group,

I know CD burners have been around for ages but I've only recently purchased one as part of a total overhaul of my PC. So all this ripping/burning stuff is new and somewhat confusing to me. Now that I've got one, my wife and children want to make their own "Best of" CD's from the 150 or so music CD's that we own.

Which is the best way to go -- multiple pgms or a all-in-one?

Ideally I don't want to have to rip the CD's over and over, however, I doubt that I've got enough HDD space to rip and store 150 or CD's, even after compression ... I suppose I could always buy another HDD. :)

I *think* I would prefer the all-in-one approach but if it's better to use multiple pgms, then so be it.

What pgm(s) do you suggest/recommend?

I'm running WinXP Pro SP1

Thanks very muchly
Bazza...

Not sure what you need a compiler for but, for burning.....

DeepBurner
http://www.deepburner.com

For ripping

Rip Wiz 2003
http://www.it-mate.co.uk/support/ripwiz2003.asp

CDex
http://cdexos.sourceforge.net/

There are also a ton of catalogue programs available (I personally use my
own, but thats just me). Take a quick look on any/all of the following
freeware site's

www.pricelessware.org
www.freewarehome.com

If you rip your CD's with EAC ( http://www.exactaudiocopy.org/ ) and turn
them into MP3's with LAME ( http://sourceforge.net/projects/lame ) setting
LAME with these parameters "--alt-preset insane %s %d", then you can put
150 CD's on a 20Gb HD with no quality loss. It's easy to make a play list
with WINAMP or to burn the MP3's of your choice to an audio-CD with your
CD-writer software.
PS EAC and LAME work together perfectly, so once you have worked out how
EAC works you never want any other software to rip CD's

My opinion of "all in ones" is "jack of all trades, master of none" .
