Multiple XP user accounts with 1 OE mail store.

Andrew

I am trying to set up 4 user accounts (1 administrator, 3 limited
accounts for day to day use, don't want to be an administrator while
on-line) with all acounts sharing one e-mail account and mail store. I
have got this to work while each account is an administrator but
Outlook Express fails to start when an account is changed to a limited
account.

When in a limited user account I get this error when starting OE6,
"Outlook Express cvould not be started. The application was unable to
open the Outlook Express message store. Your computer may be out of
memory or your disk is full. Contact Mirosoft for further assistance.
(0x800C0125E, 5)"

After clicking the message box OK I get a further error reading,
"Outlook Express could not be started because MSOE.DLL could not be
initialized. Outlook Express may not be installed correctly."

If I change the user account to an administrator account the mail
works again. I want to run Outlook Express (OE6) with 1 mail store (F:/
Mail).

I have done a repair install of XP (SP2) which did not help and looked
at the mail store (F:\Mail) permissions. I cannot see any difference
in permissions between a user and administrator.

How can I fix this problem? Can this even be done?

Any help is appreciated. Ten nights searching the web has failed to
find an answer.

Regards
Andrew

you can try this;

let assume your OE mail store is "c:\documents and
settings\adminsitrator\local application\microsoft.\identify\something"
move that file to shared folder like where every account would have at least
change access. For example " "c:\documents and settings\andrew\outlook
express"

then set each of you acct to have OE store to that file in the above folder.

Same goes for Mail store for outlook.

If you still have problem, you want to look at the permissions of the OE or
Outlook program folder,....

I have setup some of my accounts to share newsgroup/ email store and some
folders too;

Good luck

Thank you for these tips, I was starting to think it could not be
done. Your comment about the OE programe folders is a new avenue to
explore. I've been looking the whole time at the mail store folder.

Problem now fixed. I don't actually know how it was fixed but the PC
is now doing what I wanted it to do.

For the record in case it helps anyone else: I created a new mail
store folder on a hard drive formatted with a FAT32 file system and
pointed each user account's OE to that mail store. I then created a
new folder back on the original hard drive partition and copied the
mail files (.DBX files) into the new folder. Each user accounts OE was
then pointed to use this folder as the mail store. It works, but I
dont fully understand why, can't see any difference in the mail store
folder's permissions. Maybe all that OE and XP needed was a sharp clip
and being told to behave...
