Multiple "windows task manager" running

Z

Zel Dolinsky

Hello:

When I boot my machine (from hibernating) in the a.m., it sometimes takes
minutes before it responds after the desk top comes up. Control/Alt/Delete
shows "windows task manager" running sometimes twice and up to many times.
When I stop each one (only leaving anti-virus running) I get the machine
back. Any help regarding this issue would be greatly appreciated.
Thanks.

There should only ONE legitimate Task Manager (taskmgr.exe) running at any
one time.

Any malware can itself anything it wants to. You most likely have malware
of some sort.

Note: taskmgr.exe is registered as a downloader. This process usually comes
bundled with a virus or spyware and its main role is to do nothing other
than download other viruses/spyware to your computer. This process is a
security risk and should be removed from your system.

UPDATE your antivirus software and run a full system scan.

UPDATE whatever anti-spyware applications that you have and run a full
system scan with each one.

You might want to start in Safe Mode to run your antivirus and anti-spyware
software.

Running a full system antivirus scan or anti-spyware scan in Safe Mode can
be a good idea. Some viruses and other malware like to conceal themselves
in areas Windows protects while using them. Safe mode will prevent those
applications access and therefore unprotect the viruses or other malware
allowing for easier removal.

Hi Zel,

How many times are you doing Ctrl-Alt-Del salute, before the Computer wakes up? The computer holds Keystrokes and mouse clicks in limbo until the computer is running then it processes the Keystrokes. That's where the duplicate Task Managers comes from.

However, why are you waking the computer up, instead of turning off the computer during the night and do a fresh boot each morning and save on electricity?
