multiple windows open

When I start up IE it goes to CNN but every few seconds a
new blank IE window opens. It soon overwhelms my PC. I've
heard that WeatherBug can cause this, but I don't use it.

My husband is experiencing this today - had to call me at work to try
and find answers because he effectively can't get online. Everytime
he fires up the browser, a gazillion windows open, one every few
seconds. He can't actually get into any of these windows to get
online. The only answer I've been able to find is that WeatherBug may
cause this, but he's never loaded it and can't find it in the
Add/Remove programs list. He can't download any patches or fixes
because... he can't do anything while hundreds of windows keep
opening! He's desperate! Any ideas would be helpful - thanks in
advance!

Hi,
From Control Panel> Internet Options> Advanced> uncheck "Enable third party
browser extensions." That may allow IE to work. You should re-enable browser
extensions after the cleanup.

You might also be able to browse and download programs from the address bar
of windows explorer.

Or, disabling suspicious programs from MSCONFIG> Startup may return control
of IE.

Download and run CWShredder from
http://www.spywareinfo.com/~merijn/downloads.html CWShredder targets only
one family of parasite, but it's a good first step. CWShredder is only about
125 KB so it could be
downloaded from another machine onto a floppy disk if necessary.
