Multiple users of Outlook on 1 pc

My wife and I each have an email a/c with our ISP with
Outlook as our email client. Is there a way whereby when
either of us opens Outlook we will see only our own
individual emails, appointments, tasks etc.

I have set us up on my pc as different users and set up
our individual email accounts under each user. However,
when we go into Outlook we're still seeing all our
messages shown together.

Any suggestions?

There's several ways you can do it..

1. Have seperate logon accounts to the PC - that'll
create seperate profiles on the PC. You can then
configure outlook to receive emails and it'll be totally
seperate with seperate .PST files.
(This is probably inconvenient for a home setup)

2. Create another .PST file manually(File- New- Personal
Folders File) - and set up (in Tools- Accounts) another
mail profile to receive the emails from your account.
Then you'll have to set up an outlook rule to send emails
with your name in the TO field to one folder and your
wifes name in the TO field to another folder.
(Note that emails sent with both names in the TO field
will be duplicated)

3. See if you can't get one of the accounts running on
Outlook Express. Functionally its not much different than
Outlook, and you'll have an easier time in general of
getting it going for two people and not mingling too much
of your data.

Hope this helps!

Yes. It would be best to know what operating system and Outlook version you are using but lets try this anyway.

Go to Start | Settings | Control Panel | double-click Mail icon | Show Profiles... |

Here you should have a profile for each Outlook user. Let's call them Him and Her. If you do not then go ahead and Add... Type in Him and say OK. Now it depends on what operating system and Outlook version you are using as to what happens next. So lets assume you have Outloo 2003. If you don't you may be able to click the right stuff anyway with this as a template.

After the above OK you will set up the account properties. So you would add a new mail account | Next | Ceck the radio button POP3 | Next |. Now here you enter all the information of your ISP's POP3 server and SMTP server. Make sure you also check More settings so that your return-address is correctly entered. Then test the connection and make sure all is well.

Now you should have a new pst in C:\Documents and Settings\%profile%\Local Settings\Application Data\Microsoft\Outlook. If you cannot find Local Settings then you need to Show all Hidden and System Files and folders. To do that you open Windows Explorer | Tools | Folder options... | View | and set the options in the List box appropriately so that you do not have your operating system hiding things from you. Afterwards you can put it back if you choose.

Now you should see Local Settings and find the new outlook.pst. It will be small in comparison with the other pst you have in there and that you are currently using. Now what you need is a Him pst and a Her pst. If you only have the one outlook.pst then that is your problem. You need a him.pst and a her.pst. What you can do is go back to where you double-clicked the Mail Icon in the Control Panel. Show Profiles | click the profile you want say click Him. Then choose Properties | Data Files ... | Add... | Select Office Outlook Personal Folders File (.pst) | OK | him | OK. Now you have a him.pst file.

Do the same with her.

Now when you open Outlook the file that it may be using is outlook.pst. You want it to open him.pst for you and her.pst for her. You need to set Outlook up so that it queries for a profile. Again you go back to the Mail Icon in the Control Panel. Mail | Show profiles... | check the radio button Check for a profile to be used | OK.

Now you have it. When you choose Him your .pst will open and when you choose Her her .pst will open. The next step is getting the mail items you have in outlook.pst into his.pst and her.pst apropriately. Let me know if you get this far and I'll show you how to do that.

HTH.

I presume your email addresses are both aliases of one username?

|The Outlook Express option I think will be the least work
|and the most seperated setup for you.
|
|Rifleman brought up a good question... Are these seperate
|email addresses?? ([email protected]) and ([email protected])

if the addresses are in fact aliases then you have to add some
information to the mail server username field in whatever program you
use otherwise the first to log on will still get all emails, no matter
what address they are sent to.
