My task bar displays two rows of (very small) icons in the notification area
next to the clock. I have unlocked the task bar and made it larger and
smaller but the two rows of icons remain. How do I get back to one (1) row
of icons? Is there any way to enlarge the icons?

Thanks

Yes there is.

Have you changed any setting's in the 'Display Properties' ->
'Appearance' -> 'Advanced' section ?

Incredibly stupid, but the size of the icons in the task tray AND the icons
for running programs shown on the taskbar is controlled, stupidly enough,
by the setting for the 'Caption Button's'. Increasing the size of the
caption buttons will increase the size of those icons.

Let us know if this works.

The size of the icons is controlled at Display - Appearance, click
Advanced and adjust the size of Caption Buttons (select in 'Item') .
But this also has the prime task of controlling the size of things like
the Minimise/restore/close buttons on windows, so adjust it with care.

Two rows can arise if you have dragged the faint hatched handle on the
right of the 'Quick Launch area too far right so it has jumped down to a
lower level, leaving regular task bar buttons all on that level. If
that looks the case, find it under the right edge of the Start Bar and
drag up and right, beyond initial Quick Launch icons and things will
snap back
