Multiple Profile problems

Hi,

I'm having some problems on both 2000 Pro and Server
machines, with SP level on the PCs being 2 or 4 and on the
Server 3 or 4. We dont use roaming profiles - they are
simply stand alone on the PC/server. If only happens for
specific profiles - i.e. mine and 1 other. However, other
profiles work fine!

When I logon to certain PCs I simply see a program error
box containing "explorer.exe has generated errors and will
be closed by Windows. You need to restart the program".
Click Ok to remove the box and it returns again and again.
Eventually the only thing you can do is log off. I have
deleted the offending profile, and even copy a working
profile into the default user profile, but this still
happens. Is it something in the registry?????

Also, in other situations I find that from the same
profile as above, I'm unable to do Searches for files or
folders from either the start menu (Start > Search > Files
or Folders) or by right clicking a folder or drive. Same
problem as above????

I have looked in TechNet and it mentions a few things -
basically get the latest service pack. problem is this
happens even on machines with Sp4 on them, and on those I
have even re-applied it!

Any ideas would be appreciated as its starting to drive me
batty. If it continues I may have to consider an
alternative career as a bin man (trash collector).....

Windows #1 Troubleshooting Step ---> Does the issue occur in Safe Mode ??
If not, then there may be some third-party browser component that is
loading up and causing problems.
To disable these:
- Open Internet Explorer
- Clear the checkbox for "Enable third-party browser extensions
(requires restart) found in Tools > Internet Options > Advanced
If this works, then you can proceed to delete the one(s) causing the
problem:
- Run Regedit
- Entries for browser extensions will be found in the below key.
Export and delete the suspect ones.
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Internet
Explorer\Extensions

Afraid that didnt work,

I deleted profile and rebooted PC into safe mode. Still
happens. Rebooted back into normal mode, removed the tick
from the box as suggested anyway, rebooted and tried
again. Still no joy. Any other ideas?

Thanks
SBM
