Multiple OS -error!

CJ

I had to reinstall my Windows XP Home, after repeated blue screen
message. The re installation did not go too smoothly with hanging, and
automatic reboots. Anyway eventually I did reboot, and reinstall.

Now when I reboot, I am offered three operating system choices, all
windows XP Home. I have never tried to install other OS's. I know only
one works, ( which fortuneately I have made the default through my
computer>right click> properties>advanced> start up and recovery )and
the others do not, and lead to an error message, and failed re-boot.

Any ideas how I can delete the bogus unwanted OS systems/choices menu
safely, please.

Also since re-install my keyboard has a different setup, I presume,
because when I press @ I get | and # gives me (pound sign) (can't find
it!!) amongst other very useful little annoyances. Any ideas how to get
to the correct keyboard layout, thanks

Try Check All Boot Paths.

Start | Run | Type: msconfig | Click OK |
Boot.ini tab | Check All Boot Paths button |
A dialog box will open detailing the location of any invalid operating
system locations | Confirm you want to remove the entry and reboot

[[Check All Boot Paths - This button will check the boot paths for all
operating systems listed in the BOOT.INI to ensure they point to a valid
operating system. ]]

Msconfig image

If there is only one you will get:
It appears that all BOOT.INI lines for Microsoft operating systems are OK.

A dialog box will open detailing the location of any invalid operating
system locations.
Similar to this...
-------------------
It appears that the following line in the BOOT.INI file does not refer to a
valid operating system:

"multi(0)disk(0)rdisk(0)partition(2)\WINDOWS="Microsoft Windows XP
Professional " /fastdetect /NoExecute=OptIn"

Would you like to remove it from the BOOT.INI file?
-------------------

Keyboard Language...

Windows XP defaults to US English.

Start | Settings | Control Panel | Regional and Language Options |
Languages tab | Details button | Settings tab |

Default input language
[[Specifies the default language that you use to insert text. The default
language is used every time you start or log on to your computer.
For example, if you insert text in German most of the time, but have also
added English as an input language, select German as your default language.
When you want to insert text in English, you can switch to that language.
A language must be added under Installed services to be available as a
default.]]

Add button
[[Click to install additional languages and text services. When you start or
log on to your computer, all the languages and text services that you have
added are loaded into memory.]]

I assume you're looking for English (United Kingdom).
