Multiple Monitors

On XP I have no trouble using 2 monitors - one as an extension of the other.
In 2000 the system seems to only use both at the same time. I find in the
Help topics a description of a card that needs to be installed. Is this
something I obviously don't have to make this work?

It is not completely clear to me what you are asking.

I /think/ you are trying to say that in XP you have
a single desktop spanning the two monitors - kind
of like you would have had if you had a single huge
monitor. If that is true, then you are also saying
that your Windows 2000 problem is that your desktop is
duplicated on each monitors and you want to change it
so that you have a single big desktop covering both
monitors ?

You need to go into the display settings for your
video card and look for an option that lets you choose
between a single big desktop spanning both monitors or
a smaller desktop that is the same on both monitors.
Where the options are located in your display settings
and the exact wording used to describe the options will
depend on your video card - or cards, as the case may be.
You might also have a third option: separate desktops
on each monitor.
