Multiple Instances of Outlook 2002 opening

Michael Koch

Is anyone aware why Outlook is suddently allowing multiple
instances to open on my computer?

In the past, when Outlook was open on my machine, if I
treid to open it again it would just revert to the already
opened version.
NOW, when I have Outlook already opened and try to launch
it again, it allows a 2nd, 3rd, etc instance to open.

Anyone have any idea if this matters? and how I can
prevent it from happening?

Please let me know. Thanks!

Add the /recycle switch to the end of the file path in your shortcut
properties. If you need help using Outlook command line switches, look

Thanks for the info!
However, when I did try this, I can only get this to work
for the one time that I enter the command into the Run
dialog.

Do you know of a way to permanently adjust the command
line for the shortcut? as opposed to entering the new
command every time I want to run the /recycle command?

Let me know if you have anymore insight. Thanks!

It depends on the type of shortcut you're using to open Outlook. Some
shortcuts are not the typical Windows shortcuts and are designed for
specific purposes. For example, the shortcut in the Windows XP start
menu is a "check e-mail" shortcut and will open Outlook in the Inbox
every time, no matter what else you might have specified in Outlook's
Options settings. Similarly, the shortcut that the Office install
program puts on the Windows desktop has specific functions which can be
accessed through its Properties dialog. You won't be able to add the
/recycle switch to those shortcuts -- you'll have to use a regular
Windows shortcut to the outlook.exe file and add the switch to that.
