HELP - can anyone explain why I have upwards of 100
entries of iexplore.exe running when I check my processes?
I have run Fix-It Utilities AV, Trend Micro AV and Panda
and all confirm that I have no viruses present in my
system yet the system memory keeps being used up with
these multiple versions of this program - just doesn't
seem right. Any suggestions will be appreciated.

It's probably spyware, which the virus programs usually don't detect. Try
Spybot Search & Destroy and Ad-Aware -- and I suggest you run BOTH of them.
