Multiple Domain Creation

If I wanted to create multiple domains under the
same "forest", would I need a separate domain controller
for each separate child domain? If so, would the DC's be
fault tolerant for the other domains? Say if DC1 goes
down, would DC2 and DC3 be able to authenticate for
Domain1?

Ok, so for fault tolerance on say 3 domains, I would need
6 domain controllers?

Thanks. I have one more question, slightly off track but
related to AD. I am setting up a new Domain, and I plan
to migrate our current users over to it and eventually
bring down our current domain. We have an exchange 2000
server that is not a domain controller. In order to bring
exchange over to the newly created domain, do I need to
reinstall exchange and recreate all of the mailboxes? Or
can I "move" our current exchange server over to the new
domain?
