Multiple Display Layout Keeps Resetting

I have an ASUS notebook with an Ati Mobility x1600.

To problem I have is when I change the layout of the monitors in the
Settings dialogue, the layout resets to the default when I lock then unlock
the notebook.

When I set the layout, I try to have the secondary display to my left, but
when I unlock the notebook, Windows keeps resetting the secondary display to
my right.

Is there a way I can stop this?

Without a different driver for the laptop video, it's unlikely you would be
able to correct whatever lack the driver has in correctly manipulating the
HAL (Hardware Abstraction Layer)

Mr. Ferguson,

Thankyou for your advice. This is where it gets more problematic. I am
running the official drivers for the chip. I got them from ATi's web site.

Are you suggesting I try another set of drivers for the notebook?
