Multiple CC recipients

Angela Rogers

When we send e-mails and we cc them, the cc recipients
receive the e-mail multiple times. For example, if an e-
mail is cc'd to 5 people, each cc person receives 5 copies
of the e-mail. We are using Outlook 2002 under Windows
XP. Any ideas?

Thanks
Angie

That is not normal behavior. Are you sending to
distribution lists that the recipients may have membership
to more than one?

When it is sent to distribution lists, it works fine. Its
occurs when addresses are separated by ";" that the
problem occurs. We use a POP mail account.

Also, what sort of mail account are you using?

Could you turn on diagnostic logging (see
http://support.microsoft.com/default.aspx?scid=kb;en-us;Q300479), send some
mail that reproduces this problem, and post the OPMLog.log file after you've
done so?

Did the message sent when this log was made arrive multiple times at the Cc:
recipients? The log shows that Outlook told the server to send the message
to three addresses (the communication with the server doesn't specify To: or
Cc:, just "send the message here"). The server said "OK". So if multiple
copies arrived at the recipients, it is either a problem with the server or
something wrong on the recipient's end.

Could you turn on diagnostic logging (see
http://support.microsoft.com/default.aspx?scid=kb;en- us;Q300479), send some
mail that reproduces this problem, and post the OPMLog.log file after you've
done so?

When it is sent to distribution lists, it works fine. Its
occurs when addresses are separated by ";" that the
problem occurs. We use a POP mail account.

Also, what sort of mail account are you using?

That is not normal behavior. Are you sending to
distribution lists that the recipients may have
membership
to more than one?

When we send e-mails and we cc them, the cc recipients
receive the e-mail multiple times. For example,
if
an
e-
mail is cc'd to 5 people, each cc person receives 5
copies
of the e-mail. We are using Outlook 2002 under Windows
XP. Any ideas?

Thanks

The logs clearly show that Outlook only sent the message to three recipients
(for privacy reasons, the logs don't show the actual addresses), not to the
nine recipients that would be required for each of the three to receive
three copies. Two things to do:

1) If the recipients are also running Outlook, this may be caused by rules
they've set up in Outlook. If they have rules that move or copy messages,
they should make sure that their rule is also set up to stop processing
rules. I think this is the likely problem.
2) If the problem is not on the recipient's end, you should contact your
ISP. As I say, Outlook is only specifying three recipients for the message.
It's possible, though, that your ISPs software is, for each recipient,
looking inside the message and sending to everyone in the To: or Cc: lines.
That would explain three copies to each person.

Each recipient received the e-mail 3 times.
-----Original Message-----
Did the message sent when this log was made arrive multiple times at the Cc:
recipients? The log shows that Outlook told the server to send the message
to three addresses (the communication with the server doesn't specify To: or
Cc:, just "send the message here"). The server said "OK". So if multiple
copies arrived at the recipients, it is either a problem with the server or
something wrong on the recipient's end.
