Multiple Boot Option on XP Install

I just received a dell Inspiron E1505 laptop with a Windows XP clean
install disk. The first thing I do is decide to reformat it (using the
OS disk that I requested) in order to clear out all the crap that
usually comes on pre built systems. The fortmat was successful except
for one problem. I have a multiple os boot option when I start the
laptop. Of course the other boot does not work. I had this problem once
before with a desktop. I resolved the issue by just erase disking the
drive and placing a clean install on the system. Unfortunately, this
machine does not have a floppy drive, and that is the only utility I
have for erase disk that I know works correctly. In any case, I do not
want a multiple boot screen to show up every time I start or re start
my system.
As a note, I did delete the partitions on my hard drive. I could not
delete the c: partition because it had stored temporary setup files on
it for the install.
I thought I would try posting before installing Linux to wipe the drive
and then installing XP again to see if anyone has a better idea.

Download an ISO from the company that made the hard drive in the computer.
Use that to wipe the drive, then install XP.

And for future reference, you can delete/create/format partitions with
the Windows XP CD when you do the operating system installation.

First problem is that I already did that (as specified above), and
second issue seems to be that I cannot find drivers for a hitachi

Post the contents of the boot.ini file here.

If you have a full installation win cd you should have been able to delet
all partitions prior to the install taking place. - I dont know whether this
includes any hidden recovery partitions

Hi,
If you have a Clean Install XP CD, not Recovery Disk, then you need to start
the Process of Deleting the Partitions and Format the Hard Drive to wipe off
all the Junk.
To do that Insert your CD and select Set Up and Press F8 to agree or accept
the agreement to install and to be obeid by the Eula.
Start up will give you many Options among them Delete Partitions and Logical
Partition too.
Delete all and then Creat your Partition (s) and make the one you will
install the OS is the Active Partition.
Rather than that you will need third party Software to delete the crap.
Never ever buy a mchine pre install as always can have nasty stuff, which
can put you in a risk.
HTH.
Please elt us know.
Regards,
nass
