In Roots Magic, a genealogy program, I was always able to
enter pictures with the multimedia choice which would
scan photos to the appropriate page but now that I have a
new computer with windows xp, I get a message "camera
connection failed. Make sure camera is properly
connected and turned on." There was something that
flashed on that I didn't copy about Jasc Paint Shop Photo
Album so I guess it has something to do with that. No
help at all on the support??? center. I suppose I could
pay $35 and get some help. A little sarcasm never hurts

This is a message you might get if the camera software driver is not loaded,
perhaps because it did not come with XP.
The first thing to try is to download an XP compatable driver from the the
camera OEM's web site, and see if it will install and solve the problem.
Usually you will need to start the install process with the camera not
connected to the computer's usb port, and connect it and turn it on as
instructed to do so. Failure to follow the instruction may also result in a
message similar to the one you have, and a non functional camera link..
