transfer pictures using usb

I have a Kodak dx7590 digital camera. My computer is a Dell
Dimension 8400 running Windows XP MCE. Both are about 2 1/2 yrs
old. I never had a problem transferring pictures to my computer via
usb until recently. I can transfer pictures via card slot or with
Easyshare so it's not a disaster but I prefer to use my Jasc Paint
Shop Photo Album program to manage my photos. I don't even get the
window asking which program I want to use when I connect the camera
to usb. What could be the problem?
Any help appreciated.

Use this program from Microsoft.

If you run the program, and plug in the camera, so you see a
device listed in UVCView ? UVCView should show the
configuration info obtained from a USB device that is
plugged in. It proves that some amount of info was
successfully transferred over the USB cable.

If you can use EasyShare to transfer photos from the camera then the USB
connection is working. The choice of Events that are offered is set up
with/by software. My Kodak is about the same age and IIRC after a certain
point in time installing the updated versions of EasyShare removed both the
Event options and direct access to the camera through Explorer.

I wondered if the Easyshare update did something but I didn't know
for sure. How can you get the Event options and direct access
back...or can you?

You might need to uninstall EasyShare. Check the Kodak support pages for
EasyShare first though for complete instructions. It's been over a year
since I last tried using EasyShare.

http://www.kodak.com/eknec/PageQuerier.jhtml?pq-path=10&pq-locale=en_US&_requestid=21676

The original version 3.3 that came with my camera worked fine but many
things were changed in subsequent versions, including how EasyShare managed
the photo collection/database. The old version could be reinstalled after
the newer one is removed but if you used EasyShare to arrange your photos
into albums, all that could be lost (not the photos themselves though).

I found the answer here...finally!

Thanks for your help.
