Multimedia not working?

I have:
-Win 2000 Pro
-Amtel 2100+
-512MB RAM
-120G HD
-Soundblaster Live!
-ATI Radeon 8500 All-in-one (128MB)

I rarely play games but found that a few are now not working. I have done a
lot of updating since these games were last successfully played so it's
difficult to pinpoint the reason. Here is what happens:

Part way into Jeopardy, I get:
"L_SEQNCR.C open video stream; unable to open AVI file named
"D:\jeopardy\videos\filemane.avi", error code-2147221008. This usually means
that you don't have the video decompressor needed, see the multimedia
control panel to add one (maybe you are missing INDEO 5.0?)"

Part way into Microsoft Links, I get:
a blue screen with....
"*** STOP: 0x000000D1 (0xFFFFFF8F, 0x0000002, 0x0000000, 0xBFD416EE
DRIVER_IRQL_NOT_LESS_OR_EQUAL
*** Address BFD416EE base at BFD30000, datestamp 3b78d09d-emu10k1f.sys
beginning dump of memory"

In You Don't Know Jack, The system reboots shortly after the game starts.

Here is what I have done:
1. Checked INDEO 5.0. (Control Panel -> Sounds and Multimedia->
Hardware ->Video Codecs -> Properties -> Properties). INDEO 5.10 is shown
and it is shown as enabled and working properly. (11 others are also shown)
2. "emu10k1f.sys" is a soundblaster driver. I removed and reinstalled the
driver.
3. I removed 11 MS security patches, Service Patch 4, an update to Windows
Media Player and the newest version of Windows Media Player - all or which
have been installed since the games last functioned.
4. Removed an updated Pivot program. (to allow an LCD monitor to operate in
Portrait mode.)
5. I have played the named *.avi file from Jeopardy in Windows Media Player
and it works!
6. Needless to say, my anti-virus software is up-to-date and the system is
clean.
7. Searched the MSKB and MANY newsgroups for answers.

Nothing that I have done fixes the problem!

Anyone have any ideas for this poor struggling sole?

Thanks in advance,
GKC

Thanks Bob,
Yes. That was the first thing I did. Sorry that I forgot to mention it!

Wild guesses at this point. latest version of DirectX installed? Some
Intel driver updates needed after the Windows system updates?
