Multihosted RAS Server

M

Mark Stine

I have a dual hosted Win2k Server that I have setup RAS
and LAN routing on. The RAS connections connect to the
machine and I can ping both interfaces. I call
these "Backbone" and "LAN Network". When I try to
estblish connections to the web server on "Backbone"
interface the connection is never established.

Web connections are sucessful on the "LAN Network"
interface. I am using host names on my web server that
point to the "Backbone" interface which is not working.
So these sites are not available.

This unit is entirely inside the firewall and has no
filters installed. RAS is using an address pool.

Any Ideas.

When you make a RAS connection, you are effectively "inside" your
network. You receive a private IP address and all your RAS traffic is
directed to an "internal" interface on the server which links to the private
side of your LAN.

So you essentially use the same techniques as you would on the LAN to
access the server's resources.

I captured some network traffic and found that when I try
to connect to some resources on other networks that the
responses are causing the server to send back ICMP
Destination Unreachable with a Port Unreachable status
code.

All addresses are real routable internet IP addresses

Thanks Mark
