Who makes a good quality multifunction (print/scan/photo) printer that
will produce high quality photographs from a high end digital camera.
Please provide make, model, and approximate cost.
Thanx!

Multifunctional and High Quality are mutually exclusive

Canon MP370. Printer/Scanner/Copier; 18 ppm; built in flash card and SMC
reader; built in digital camera port for direct printing. I have the 360
which is same except for the lack of flash reader and camera port. I have
separate interface for that. I got this great printer for $120USD with a
$30 rebate coupon from Newegg.com. It runs USB 2.0 also. I had also
considered the Epson R300M but no one has them and the Canon prints
faster(Epson is USB 1.1) and from what I've read has less problems with
nozzle clogging.

What a load of crap.

I own an HP OfficeJet G85 inkjet printer and the print quality from it
is outstanding. I've even put developed photos on the scanner, hit the
"high quality" color scan button and gotten prints on Kodak paper that
are "indistinguishable" from the original photo.

Rather than paying $1,500 for extra sets of my daughter's graduation
photos, I use the G85 to make copies for my relatives and again the
quality was outstanding.

While I am sure the results are good, a decent print service will always be
cheaper than the paper/ink costs on any ink jet.

look at the Epson R500 and the newest in the line the R600 both have
scanners that can do slides and negatives, the 600 has picbridge too it
all so has a built in 2.5 inch display

Having been the user of a Canon MP390 for three weeks now, I agree with Ron
that the print & copy quality is pretty good - first test I ran was colour
copy which was very impressive. It certainly is a huge improvement over the
Xerox I had before.

Only drawback is that black ink usage seems high - I know that the carts are
pretty cheap compared to HP & Xerox so it should run out cheaper in the long
run.

Sorry- I've never seen anything come out of ANY ink jet printer, that I
couldn't "distinguish" from a good analog photo. IMHO, all-in-ones are a
convenience, there just so you don't have to give up deskspace, but you give
up scanning quality and print quality in exchange.

Nope, the output quality of modern printers are just fine. Anyone who says
otherwise is trying to look like a discriminating professional.
I do not go over my photos with a jeweler's lupe and I don't equate
satisfaction with a "it's gotta be as real as mother nature" attitude. So
relax and enjoy your home photos.

Are one of these photo printers "cost effective"????? Take the case of a
$400 printer. 100 - 8X10 prints costs $4.00 each not even considering the
cost of toner and expensive photo paper. What does a commercial outfit
charge to make an 8X10 from a digital camera? How many prints (photo type)
do you get out of a set of colour cartriges?

You should take a look at the HP PSC 2410, ~$299 US. It has card slots for
directly printing from the camera cards as well as copy, fax, scan and print
capability. The PSC 2510 at ~$399 US is similar but has built-in wireless and
wired networking. The HP PSC 2175 at $199 is similar to the 2410 except it
does not have Fax capability and cannot print full borderless photos.

For the best quality photo printing or copying from these units get the
optional #58 photo cartridge, $25 US that replaces the normal #56 black
cartridge. See the following for details:
