Good morning,
I'm having a hardtime with the installation of a device and the context is a
little unusual.
1 - I do have the English version of Windows XP professional edition with
SP-2 installed.
2 - I just bought the D-Link DWL-G520+A PCI 802.11g Wireless card (it
doesn't show here but this is the Chinese version of the DWL-G520) ... the
only one available to me since I now live in China!
3 - I plugged the card and a new device was detected. Windows would not find
drivers but I though ... nevermind since DLINK gave me a CD.
4 - From the D-Link CD, I choose the driver option that should install a
Utility that is both suppose to install the drivers and a configuration tool
for the card. Installation went smoothly (but from the fact that I had a
message saying that this soft is not Windows certified ... do I want to
continue) but ... but ... but
5 - Once the install is completed, my device manager still shows the card as
??? and tells me the drivers are still not installed.
6 - When I try to launch the D-Link Air Plus G utility (the one that should
allow me to configure the card), the application would not start .... but at
the same time, I have no error message! When I try to launch it with the Task
manager opened, I can see a process starting for a second and then closes
iimmediately (no time to read the process name).
7 - If I try to install the driver manually by selecting the appropriate
location on the CD ... I end-up having a message from windows saying that the
drivers were not installed because I could not provide a location with
drivers!
Of course, all my documentation is in Chinese (which is not helping the
French Canadian facing this problem!). I sent a message to D-Link Canada/USA
.... the sent me back to D-Link China ... D-Link China web site is exclusively
chinese and guess how good their tech support are in English!!! : ))
I came to wonder if my problem could be related to the fact that the D_Link
application, when launched, tries to access Chinese language ressources that
would not be installed on my PC.
Anyone would know if this might be my problem? If so, any work around? Any
ressource I could install to solve this issue. I wanted to install a MUI pack
to temporarily change my windows from English to Chinese but I could not find
the Windows XP Multilingual User Interface (MUI) Pack ... and found this
might be avaialble only to corporate customer.
Any help would be appreciated
