MSWORD FOR MY WINDOWS XP

S

sherwin

I have just bought a new Dell, Windows XP. It doesn't
have MSWord installed. It has WordPerfect Office 11.0.
Without MSWord,my documents get put into Word Pad.
Additionally, I do not have Spell Check. Is there a
download forMs Word? If not, what?
Thanks,
Sherwin

No, there is no download for Microsoft Word. It can be purchased
at your favorite store that sells computer software.

It should be pointed out, MS-Word is not now nor has it ever been a part of
any Windows operating System. MS-Word is a separate application that can be
purchased stand alone or as a part of MS-Office Suite.

While MS-Word or Office might be included with some systems as a part of the
software bundle included with a given computer, the decision to include it
is strictly up to the manufacturer.

The user always needs to check with the manufacturer what options and
software are included with their system as well as what they might request
to be included and weigh that and any additional cost in making a decision
on which system to buy.

When you bought the computer from Dell you should look at
the options for upgrades and software. Dell does offer
WordPerfect because it is cheaper. Office (with Word) is an
extra cost option.

Dell MIGHT sell you an OEM Office CD at a cut-rate price if
you ask.

WordPerfect (Corel) should be able to open .doc (Word) files
if you use the proper procedure. Open WordPerfect and use
the "file/open" menu to select and open the file. WP should
convert the file so it can be read/edit/printed. All modern
word processors can save/open multiple file types.

Check Corel's website for file converters.

You can buy Office and also keep WP, so you can work easily
with any file type.

Neither Windows XP nor any other version of Windows has ever come
with Word nor with any other significant application software.

If you want Word, you need to buy it, either alone, as part of
Microsoft Office, or, most inexpensively, as part of Microsoft
Works Suite.

It has WordPerfect Office 11.0.

No version of Windows has ever included WordPerfect either. Dell
happens to bundle WordPerfect with the computer it sold you.

Some people, myself included, prefer WordPerfect to Word. But
it's your choice; you can use WordPerfect or buy Word.

WordPerfect has the ability to read and edit Microsoft Word
documents. Either open them from within WordPerfect or change the
file association for .doc files to point to WordPerfect.

Yes you do. WordPerfect has a built-in spell checker that works
just fine. What you don't have is a spellchecker that works with
Outlook Express. There are third-party spell-checking products
that are free or inexpensive which you can can download.

Is there a
download forMs Word?

No, of course not. It's commercial software, for sale. It's not
given away.
