MSVCR70.dll missing

I uninstalled a number of programs from an old computer for my wife to use
and now a number of programs, notably, Outlook Express gives me the error
message that it can't find the file MSVCR70.dll. I did some research on the
file and I know that it belongs in the Windows System32 folder. I have
another computer networked to this one that has the file where it belongs.
Can I just copy the file from this computer into her computer's System 32
folder and solve the problem or will that create another problem, like a
registry problem that will make me wish I never woke up this morning or do I
have to go through some anal Windows procedure to get the file where it
belongs? Oh yeah, they are both running XP. Thanks in advance.

You sure can. Just to be sure you should make sure that they're both at the
same Service Pack level. That file is unlikely to have been changed but it
is better safe than sorry.

"In solving a problem of this sort, the grand thing is to be able to reason
backwards. That is a very useful accomplishment, and a
very easy one, but people do not practise it much. In the every-day affairs
of life it is more useful to reason forwards, and so
the other comes to be neglected. There are fifty who can reason
synthetically for one who can reason analytically." - Sherlock

Not yet. There was an old Norton 2004 in the computer which I uninstalled a
few days ago. Was going to put in 2008 soon. Should I?

Is or was Norton installed ???

There you go

This issue was created by Norton which you un-installed a few days ago.

I suggest you re-install Norton (same version) and then use their uninstall Tool which is available on their site to remove it correctly and almost completely

If you uninstalled it from the uninstall menu in control panel, that is why
you have a problem. Norton is a notorous tool to get rid of. Norton
provide an removal tool on their website which is in fact the only way to
shift it. Re-install it and then run their removal tool.
