MSPaint language problem

Some months ago I was looking online for a freeware fax program compatible
with adsl as opposed to dial up. I unsucessfully tested and uninstalled one
program, which turned out to be in German, but only later discovered that the
error messages in MSPaint had turned German! Now when closing unsaved work it
says "Anderungen in untitled speichern". Is there any way to restore the
language back to UK English? I have run Windows XP Pro repair installs since
then with no affect.

Hi,

You'd have to look at what modules were installed by the fax program. One of
them (hard to tell which) replaced the English version with a German one.
Paint doesn't use too many of them, see if one is hhctrl.ocx. You will need
to re-extract the English version of the overwritten file from the I386
folder (on the XP CD or folder on the hard drive).

The file on the CD is 225Kb as opposed to the 514Kb file in System32,
dllcache and ServicePackFiles. Would I rename the file to correct the
extension or is there a propper way to extract it, do I copy the file to all
three locations and is the filesize difference a problem?

Dan,

In addition:

It may also be the mfc42loc.dll file
http://support.microsoft.com/default.aspx?scid=kb;EN-US;q249592
Move the file away from the %Systemroot%\System32 folder
