MSNMSGR.exe Problem

I am running Vista Home Premium, and I have had my laptop for a couple weeks,
recently I have been having problems with Windows Live Messenger. When I try
to start WLM nothing happens. However, if I check processes in windows task
manager, I see MSNMSGR.exe for every time I tryed to open it. I can end
process for all of them (which take up about 1~2mb ram), except for the first
msnmsgr.exe process, I can tell this one apart because it takes about 7mb of
ram. This process I can't end even if I click end process tree. To make
things worse, my computer cannot properly shutdown with that one process
running, it takes much longer to shut down if I have attempted to run WLM
sometime during the computer's on time. When it starts up again, it says
windows has not properly shut down, due to a bluescreen. I have disabled WLM
to run on start up (I had to do this by going into regedit.exe, as WLM window
does not show up).

Just thought I'd add, I've noticed my notebook running noticeably slower than
usual. Before this annoying messenger problem, I could run BF2142 on
high/medium settings, and BF2 on highest settings with no AA, at a
comfortable 40~50 fps with lag spikes a few seconds after loading. Now I get
an fps of 25~30 on the same settings, with frequent lag spikes every 10 or so
seconds, which I fear could be a result of my notebook not shutting down
properly. Loading is also way slower, and my 2142 sometimes freezes on
loading. Is anyone else having this problem with msnmsgr.exe process? For now
I have uninstalled it so I can properly shut down my computer, but I can't
stand using web messenger. I will run a defrag in the meantime.

Have you tried uninstalling and reinstalling MSN live?
All contact data is stored on the MSN server. Your chat history is local
and might need backing up.

.... Yes I have tried that many times, I even tried several different
versions. For now it is uninstalled as I don't want any further damage done
to my notebook, however I still would like to figure out this problem.

You will get a much better response if you post this message where the Live
Messenger experts answer questions.

Here is the newsgroup.

microsoft.public.windows.live.messenger

It seems WLM only does this when I have my power plan set to Battery Saving,
whenever its set to High Performance, there is no problems with WLM 8.5 Beta.
