Hi Folks,

I tried to access these newsgroups from MS's public news
server and Outlook Express timed out when it was trying to
download the available newsgroups. Is this server still
in use? Does it need a username and password like "guest"
or something else? I was able to use it a long time ago,
but not now.

Thank you.

it's working, I'm posting to it... sometimes it goes goofy though and you
need to try again in a few minutes. no user/pass needed - just the server
name.

I have been trying to get the newsgroups and it just won't
download. Outlook Express can't find the news server. I
pinged the server and it doesn't respond. Is it possible
that newsgroups are disabled at my company? I have the
server name entered properly, "msnews.microsoft.com."

Any suggestions?

it's possible they have port 119 closed, and yes, the address is
msnews.microsoft.com
